Certifications and Course Requirements for Coaching 

NYSED Certified Physical Education Teacher

Starting April 1, 2025 - Child Abuse Training (2 hours - New)
CPR/First Aid/AED (see below)
Online Concussion Certification Certificate (Must be done on a biannual basis) (see below)
 

Other NYSED Certified Teacher

Starting April 1, 2025 - Child Abuse Training (2 hours - New)
CPR/First Aid/AED (see below)
Online Concussion Certification Certificate 
(Must be done on a biannual basis) (see below)
 
  1. Complete an approved course in Philosophy, Principles and organization of Athletics in Education within two years from the date of initial appointment as a coach.
  2. Complete a course on Health Sciences Applied to Coaching within five years of appointment as a coach; and
  3. also, within that same five years, complete a course on Theory and Techniques of Coaching the sport or sports for which he/she is appointed.

Non-Teacher

Obtain a Temporary Coaching license by applying online through the NYSED TEACH system
Starting April 1, 2025 - Child Abuse Training (2 hours - New)
Must be fingerprinted (see below)
CPR/First Aid/AED (see below)
Online Concussion Certification Certificate 

(Must be done on a biannual basis) (see below)

Submit child abuse prevention workshop and violence abuse prevention workshop documentation

Complete the DASA workshop. 
Meet the following course requirements and timelines listed below:
  1. Complete an approved course in Philosophy, Principles, and Organization of Athletics in Education within two years from the date of initial appointment as a coach.
  2. Complete a course in Health Science Applied to Coaching within five years of appointment as a coach; and
